Marlene Bednarczyk

NEDSS Lead, Research Scientist 1 Coordinator, Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS),

State of New Jersey 

 

Marlene Bednarczyk graduated from NGS with her MSQSM in 2000 from the cohort in Fort Dix, New Jersey. She is also the wife of Senior Faculty Member, Dr. Allen Bednarczyk.  Marlene says the application of the knowledge acquired  beginning with the first course, The Principles of Quality Systems Managmeent, along with the MSQSM received in 2000, enabled her to improve the New Jersey Congregate Housing Services Program (CHSP), which provided supportive services to the elderly in subsidized housing. In her position as a Program Development Specialist 1 and Coordinator of the CHSP, Marlene was able to expand the program from 30 to 43 sites.

NGS Annual Board Meeting Honors Former Deputy Secretary of Education

 

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Process Improvement for the U.S. Department of Education, Dr. Katherine Tobin, will be the keynote speaker at the NGS annual board meeting on June 3, 2011 at the NGS Oyster Pond Center.  NGS Board Chair, Dr. Thomas Kneavel, welcomed former secretary Tobin for “her expertise at the most senior levels of national education thought leadership.” 

  

As Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education, Dr. Tobin focused on strengthening the Department’s capacity to work most productively with its political and educational partners.  Prior to her appointment as Deputy Assistant Secretary, Dr. Tobin served three years on the Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service.  She brought eighteen years of experience in education to the Department when she joined in September 2009.  She has also served as a university administrator and faculty member, and worked twelve years in corporate America.  She led research teams at Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Catalyst, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women in business. 

 

Dr. Tobin earned a Ph.D. and Master of Arts degree from Stanford University’s School of Education and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching from the University of Massachusetts.

Once again, NGS representatives will be attending the annual  Military Healthcare Convention & Conference at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas on June 14-15, 2011.  Stop by and see us in booth #300

 

The MHCC is a "national military event where healthcare professionals, both military and non-military, can come together to discuss the latest in the continuum of care, technology advancements and best practices in their discipline.  "The theme of this year's event is, "Advancing the Contiuum of Care:  Sharing Critical Information & Best Practices From Pre-Deployment to Veterans Care."

Call for Homeland Security Papers

 

The eleventh annual IEEE Conference on Technologies for Homeland Security (HST '11), will be held 15-17 November 2011 at the Westin hotel in Waltham, Massachusetts. IEEE is currently seeking technical paper, poster and tutorial session submissions. Submissions should focus on technologies with applications available for implementation within about five years. All areas will cover the following common topics:

  •  Strategy and threat characterization, CONOPs, risk analysis
  •  Modeling, simulation, experimentation, and training
  •  Testbeds, standards and evaluations

The IEEE HST ’11 committee will review technical paper submissions and select best papers for presentation at this conference. Best Paper awards for each technical track will be announced at the conference.

Meet Your Professor

 

Paul Larson

Professor Paul Larson attended Alfred University, where he earned his BA in General Science with a minor in Chemistry.  He also participated in the Army ROTC program at Alfred, which led him to his first significant work experience in different leadership capacities in a Nike Hercules Air Defense missile battery. After his Army experience, Paul spent several years in the paper industry, working his way up from a position as a Production Planner to the Manager of a corrugated container plant. It was during this period that he received his MBA from the University of Bridgeport with a major in Management and Industrial Relations, and a minor in Finance.
